FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions > Logo Design FAQ > Can you take the Harley Davidson (or other famous) logo and put my name in it?

Search the FAQ for entries containing:

No.  That is plagiarism.  It is not only illegal but it is also simply not good business.  What does a copycat logo say about your company? Intentionally or not it,  a copycat logo makes a statement about the company that uses it.  It may look to others like that company does not care if they break copyright laws, and may seem a little "shady" as a result.  Another reason not to use copycat logos is you can never protect your brand because you don't really own it yourself.

Finally, if the true owner of the copyright becomes aware of the copy, at the very minimum you will have to change all the graphics on your trucks, , business cards, shirts, invoices, yellow page ads and any where else you had your logo printed.  You can also be on the hook for liability as well.  You may think company who's logo you "borrowed" will never find out, but are you willing to bet your business on it?
